Caring for my Ward is challenging, however he has grown so much since joining the Great Plains community. I credit the caring and supportive staff interaction.They took the time and put in the effort to get to know him and establish a relationship with him. That relationship provides a positive foundation at times when things get hard for him. They accept him, value and respect him. What I value most is their ability to understand the challenges associated with his disability and to help him process when he has become triggered or frustrated. They have good staffing coverage that allows them to be in tune with what is going on in his life and to intervene early to help him regulate if needed. They offer many activities and opportunities for him. He has started participating in Special Olympics and is now working 2 days a week. He is happy with his life there. He is more positive and content, something I had only wished for him until now.
